Open Data

One of the main goals of DHS Open Data is to facilitate the release of DHS high-value datasets whenever possible. High-value datasets include data that: were previously not provided but increase accountability and responsiveness, increase public knowledge, further the core mission of DHS, create economic opportunity or respond to identified needs or demands. For more information on what DHS is doing with Open Data, visit our topic page.

We'd like to hear from you as to what datasets you'd find useful, what you'd use them for, etc. Please feel free to browse the ideas posted below. You can comment on ideas and vote for or against them. When you're ready, click here to submit your own idea!

Prevent Employment Identity Theft

Imagine you get notified when someone applies for employment using your identity. This is similar to the credit bureaus' fraud alert. This enables you to be proactive before someone racks up a huge IRS bill and will help stop employment related identity theft. If someone gets ahold of your name, social security number, and date of birth, they will pass e-verify and could get a job as if they were you. They will work ...more »

REVENUE GENERATING BORDER WALL

Tired of hearing how much the wall will cost? ME TOO!!! Turn this gripe completely around by making the wall pay for itself and then; continue to generate revenues and create jobs, in perpetuity. Build the barrier and include in its construction; a line of Solar Panels and Wind Turbines along as much of the lenght of the wall, as possible. This will create an ongoing REVENUE STREAM in the generation of electricity. It ...more »

USA/Mexico Border Wall: Crowd Funding

I suggest a government ran website that will allow American citizens to donate their own money to offset the cost of the USA/Mexico Border Wall. The website does not have to be for just the Border Wall. It should also allow citizens the oppurtunity to donate to a variety of other important government projects. When someone donates to any of the causes listed on the site they can receive a mailed official certificate ...more »

H2A Mailing of I-1797C/I-797B Petitions

The I-797C Petition Receipt Notice and the I-797B Approval Notice are very important documents for the employer to be able to request worker visas. In May 2016, USCIS announced that if the employer included a prepaid label for the I-797C and the I-797B, they would use UPS mailing vs. USPS standard mailing. However, there have been several times since the above announcement, including two recent cases, that the employer ...more »

Airline Safety

Airport security scans, etc can only go so far. I travelled a lot by air in the 1970's as an employee of TWA(now extinct). Took parents to Israel soon after the 6 day conflict when hijacking was in vogue. In what I now consider a truly genius strategy, as part of a reasonable security check, all passengers were told all El- Al flights had a unidentified air Marshall passenger with full authority to use deadly force ...more »

Voluntary pre-interview drug screening

Hey all, In light of recent events I think a good change would be for us to have TSOs take pre-employment drug screenings before even interviewing. I think it is ridiculous that we cannot find sober and qualified individuals to protect our nation in some of our most vulnerable areas. I have been passed over multiple times here in Florida despite the fact that I can pass a drug test 365 days a year with no notice whatsoever. ...more »

School Violent Intruder Alarm System

Like a fire alarm, a violent intruder alarm installed in school buildings would enable anyone who observes a violent threat to notify 911, campus security, and occupants in the building of the threat by pulling the handle on an alarm mounted on the wall (next to the fire alarm). This alarm would broadcast an announcement inside the building informing people of the violent intruder and tell them to Run-Hide-Fight. This ...more »

Information Sharing and Communication

Since the early development of the Department of Homeland Security, a recurring issue has been related to the lack of communication along with information sharing. Rewind sixteen years ago to 9/11, information sharing amongst agencies was quite low. Information was being kept within particular silos relating to what agencies individuals worked within. No silos would communicate with the other, and that caused a great ...more »

How to Improve Terror before it happens

As I read the news, I found out that most terrorists who commit their despicable act of terror uses car rental and has prior criminal record. How about establishing communication between car rental agencies and the Homeland Security (DHS) or the FBI. The DHS or FBI will be able to detect or red flag appears when an individual suspect with previous investigation, criminal record or known affiliation with radical ideas ...more »

How To Pay For The Wall.

This is how to not only pay for the construction of the Southern Border Wall, but to pay off our foreign debt to China. Last January the Multistate :Powerball Lottery had a Grand Prize totaling $1.5 Billion Dollars USD. In one week 8 Trillion Tickets were sold that generated $16 Trillion Dollars. Canada, Ireland, and other Countries have their own National Lottery. Why not create a Federally operated National Lottery, ...more »

Database of Illegal Immigrants Available to the Public

Please keep a database of illegal immigrants, easy to use and available to the public for reference. The average citizen deserves to know if his neighbor or the person he chooses to do business with is here legally or not.

Other terror activities against our country.

While watching the evening news tonight about wildfires, it occurred to me that, even though not very high profile, any terrorist group committed to crippling our country in any way that can be effective could and probably would use any and all means to subvert us. Just a thought that came to mind.
